Common Questions

At Auburn Chiropractic Center, we offer treatment plans for more than just neck and back pain. We aim to help our patients through adjustments, nutritional guidance, and help to develop their overall wellness. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic care and services.

Is chiropractic effective?

Chiropractic care and spinal manipulation are considered a safe and effective treatment for back pain, neck, pain, headaches, and more. Proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal system can enable the body to heal itself, usually without surgery or medication. It can also be used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment.

How does chiropractic care work?

Chiropractors use hands-on manipulation along with other alternative methods to help properly align your musculoskeletal structure. For a chiropractic adjustment (also called a spinal or manual manipulation), a chiropractor applies manipulation to the vertebrae that are not functioning normally. The objective of chiropractic manipulation is to increase your range of motion, improve function, and reduce nerve irritability.

The popping or cracking you will here during your manipulation is just release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort.

Is chiropractic adjustment safe?

Chiropractic adjustment is safe when performed by a licensed and trained chiropractor. “Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with Chiropractic, however, and very small.”

At your appointment, be sure to be open and honest about your pain and very specific about your symptoms. This will help the chiropractor to best treat you.

What can I expect from my visit to a chiropractor?

A chiropractor will begin your appointment by taking your medical history and then performing a physical examination. Chiropractors, like Dr. Wilton at Auburn Chiropractic Center, will then sometimes use lab tests or x-rays to determine the appropriate treatment for your pain. Chiropractors are trained to treat patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. Dr. Wilton will then set up a treatment plan so you can understand the path you will take to get back to optimal health and movement.

What results can I expect from treatment?

If you’re experiencing neck, back, or shoulder pain, you are most likely misaligned. This could be due to a trauma such as a car accident, a sports accident, or even as simple as bumping into something too hard.

At Auburn Chiropractic Center, we will do our best to get your body back to its proper state of alignment. We will work with you to get you back into alignment and build and train your muscles to keep you there.
